Big 12 Week 5 picks: Showdowns in Ames, Lubbock highlight week

Here are our Week 5 Big 12 picks from my colleague Sam Kahn and me (all times ET). Visit our college football PickCenter page for additional information on these games and many more.

Texas at Iowa State, 8 p.m. Thursday (ESPN/WatchESPN)

Khan: The Longhorns put together another good defensive effort, and, despite offensive line and running game issues, piece together enough points to escape Ames with a win. Texas 24, Iowa State 20

Trotter: Iowa State always plays Texas well in Ames, especially in night games. But the Texas defense, coming off that impressive performance at USC, will be the difference. Texas 23, Iowa State 21

Baylor at Kansas State, 3:30 p.m. Saturday (ESPN2/WatchESPN)

Khan: Jesse Ertz bounces back with a big performance against a Baylor defense allowing 8 yards per pass attempt. Kansas State 45, Baylor 34

Trotter: Baylor is definitely improving. But after a week off, Bill Snyder should have his bunch back on track after an awful showing at Vanderbilt. Kansas State 24, Baylor 16

No. 15 Oklahoma State at Texas Tech, 8 p.m. Saturday (FOX)

Khan: The Red Raiders' defense has improved, but not enough to slow down the Cowboys, who rebound from the TCU loss with a quality road win. Oklahoma State 48, Texas Tech 38

Trotter: These teams combined for 123 points last time they met in Lubbock. Expect another shootout, with the Cowboys landing the key stop late to escape. Oklahoma State 52, Texas Tech 45

RECORDS

Trotter: 25-8

Khan: 26-7
