Like 'Mr. Cub' says -- let's play two

WACO, Texas -- Former Chicago Cub great Ernie Banks always got me with his unbridled passion for the game of baseball. It's why he earned the nickname of "Mr. Cub" during his Hall of Fame career.

Banks was famous for saying that a beautiful day merited playing two baseball games instead of one.

The weather is drab here, but I'm still excited about knocking off two teams in one day. I'll start in Waco with Baylor this afternoon before heading back down to Austin tonight to hear Texas coach Mack Brown's wrapup of recent practices.

I'm curious if Baylor coach Art Briles is anywhere close to naming a starting quarterback and how his defense is faring under new coordinator Brian Norwood eight days away from their first game against No. 23 Wake Forest.

And I'm curious on Brown's "State of the Longhorns" only 10 days before his team's season opener against Florida Atlantic on Aug. 30.

Check back over the course of the day for some live blogging -- if I can find a wireless hot spot here in Waco.
