IRVING, Texas -- Heralded Kansas State running back/quarterback Daniel Thomas is expected to be eligible and ready when the Wildcats begin practice on Aug. 6.

Thomas, a standout at Northwest Mississippi Junior College, is expected to get a chance in Kansas State's crowded jumble at quarterback.

"He's finishing up summer school classes," head coach Bill Snyder said. "I think he has completed them. He's not enrolled yet. But that will take place quickly."

Carson Coffman will enter preseason camp as the No. 1 player at quarterback with expected challenges from redshirt freshmen Joseph Kassanavoid and Collin Klein.

"There are probably four young guys that will be, hopefully, very competitive for this position," Snyder said. "Carson most certainly would be the first one on the field today. He's a good young guy who understands the game. He's making the transition like everyone, going in from one system. There's a learning curve, but he handles that."
