Only in Nebraska would the color of Bo Pelini's shirt become a topic that was the kicker of a news story on his press conference.
But suitably attired in a red polo shirt, Pelini discussed the Cornhuskers' upcoming game with San Jose State and looked back at his season-opening victory over Western Michigan.
Pelini said that he didn't realize his clothing choices would become such a prime discussion point across the state after wearing a blue shirt to his weekly press gathering last week.
"It's not on purpose," Pelini joked to reporters. "I'm not that smart."
The Cornhuskers' depleted secondary will soon get a boost with the return of CB Armando Murillo, who missed last week's game, Pelini said. And S Rickey Thenarse is a day-to-day decision as he recovers from a shoulder injury.
Pelini also told reporters he'd like to find creative uses for DE Barry Turner, one of his top pass-rushing threats. The Omaha World-Herald reported that Turner notched one sack last week when he moved between two down linemen and started his rush from a standing position.
"Barry's a very versatile guy," Pelini said.
