Baylor sent out a few trading cards this summer warning of its arrival.
This week, it finally arrived.
Baylor launched BU-RG3.com this week as part of the program's Heisman campaign for quarterback Robert Griffin III.
Will it work?
Ultimately, any Heisman campaign is meaningless without the play of the individual being marketed, but it's a good move for Baylor, which isn't a traditional power and won't open the season in the top 25. The Bears aren't a team a lot of casual fans will tune in to see, but if they haven't seen Griffin or know much about him, the site is a nice resource for the uninformed.
Griffin's amassed a pretty outstanding set of accomplishments, but still isn't a household name nationally. Maybe that changes this year.
Either way, this site can't hurt. It's a good cross-section of what makes Griffin such a unique player.
It's a nice intro video of highlights before you can access the rest of the site, which also emphasizes Griffin's well-rounded personality off the field.
"The purpose of this site is to provide information on RG3's achievements, both on the field as well as in the classroom and community," Baylor Assistant AD for Communications Heath Nielsen said in a release. "Fans, media and award voters will have access to updated stats, information and video content."
The site highlights Griffin's status as an ambassador for the school, as well as his academic accomplishments and aspirations. You can also see highlights and a long list of honors.
But maybe the best part? A few choice quotes of coaches waxing hyperbolic on the man behind center in Waco.
"I can't imagine there's a better overall quarterback in the country. He's got the height of Tebow and he's got the athletic ability of Vick." -- Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville
"Absolutely amazing." -- Texas coach Mack Brown
"As good as there is." -- Kansas State coach Bill Snyder
What do you think of the site?
