Four Big 12 quarterbacks made the list of 10 finalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
Robert Griffin III, Baylor
Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma
Ryan Tannehill, Texas A&M
Brandon Weeden, Oklahoma State
No surprise there, but the Big 12's quarterback play this season has been the best of any conference this season.
Three quarterbacks from the conference are in the top six in passing yards per game this season, and five are in the top 15. Texas Tech's Seth Doege is fourth.
The Big 12 is putting up tons of points this year (five Big 12 teams in the national top 11 in scoring), and it all starts with the quarterback play.
Texas senior linebacker Emmanuel Acho was the lone Big 12 representative on the list of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, which honors players for efforts on and off the field.
From a Texas release:
Acho is an active participant in UT’s community service program and is part of a group of Longhorns that regularly visits patients at the Dell Children's Medical Center. Each summer, Acho joins his father and brother Sam, former Longhorn defensive end and current rookie for the Arizona Cardinals, on a medical mission trip to Nigeria.
Acho is also a regular speaker at local chapters of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and also speaks weekly to at-risk youth at area high schools as a member of the Longhorn Leaders class.
The award is an acronym for for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School.
