Big 12 in the polls: Week 9

Here's where the Big 12 stands in each poll.

Movin' on up? The Red Raiders and Cowboys.

USA Today (coaches)

4. Oklahoma State

9. Oklahoma

12. Kansas State

16. Texas A&M

22. Texas Tech

Others receiving votes:

26. Texas

29. Baylor.

FYI, TCU was 28th.

  • Oklahoma State couldn't jump Stanford, but that's no big surprise. Both were impressive on Saturday, and the Cardinal blew out Washington, a top 25 opponent.

  • Oklahoma fell just nine spots, but remained above undefeated Kansas State. Is that the right move?

  • Texas Tech jumps into the poll for the first time this season.

  • Texas is looming outside the poll, but expect the Longhorns to creep in next week. Kansas comes to Austin this week, and in conference play, top 25 teams lose every week and fall out of the polls. Win and the Longhorns are almost certainly in.

  • Baylor also has a big opportunity with a trip to Stillwater on Saturday.

  • Remember, the coaches' poll is factored into the BCS. The AP poll is not.

Associated Press (media)

3. Oklahoma State

10. Kansas State

11. Oklahoma

16. Texas A&M

19. Texas Tech

Others receiving votes:

28. Baylor

31. Texas

FYI, TCU was No. 34.

  • The media took the more record-based approach, slapping Bill Snyder's squad ahead of the Sooners on their ballots. Good thing we can settle these disputes on the field.

  • No. 19 for Texas Tech? That seems pretty high. Beating Oklahoma is a huge win, and Tech's two losses were to ranked teams by a combined 12 points, but only one two-loss team (Texas A&M) was higher than the Red Raiders and three one-loss teams (USC, Penn State, Cincinnati) were below them. Quite the debut for Tech, who wasn't nearly as high on my ballot, which I'll reveal on Monday.
