Back when Texas was a Top 3 team, it outmuscled a Texas Tech offensive line to stay undefeated last year. A lot has changed since then, but that UT pass rush hasn't.
Jackson Jeffcoat and Alex Okafor already have sacks, and that's a welcome sign for a team that only had 10 all season entering today's game.
So far, the offense has answered, too, and Texas leads, 10-3, early in the second quarter. Manny Diaz has earned a reputation as a blitz-happy coordinator, but he hasn't needed a ton early on. The Longhorns defensive line is harassing Texas Tech quarterback Seth Doege constantly, making him uncomfortable and forcing the Red Raiders to rely a bit more on quick screens.
The UT secondary did a nice job closing down on those in the red zone to hold Tech to a field goal on its opening drive. If the Tech offensive line doesn't make Diaz rush more than 4-5 guys, it could be a long, long day for the Tech offense.
