COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas needed a spark. Through its first seven drives, it had one first down on a broken play and a lofty pass to Jaxon Shipley.
Texas A&M provided one.
Aggies punt returner Dustin Harris got too close to a punt and let the ball hit him. Texas recovered, and on the next play Shipley hit Blaine Irby for a 41-yard touchdown on a double pass in the second quarter.
The Longhorns now trail just 13-7.
The one thing the Aggies couldn't do in a tight game with a struggling offense is do something to shift momentum. Make Texas' offense do that. No big mistakes on defense.
Texas A&M made the big mistake on special teams. Its offense hasn't been outstanding against a tough Texas defense, but the Aggies will have to establish new momentum.
The worst way to do it? Throw an intereception, which Ryan Tannehill did on the next play of the ensuing drive.
After a sleepy first quarter, it looks like we've got a ballgame on our hands.
One play can change a game.
