It was close to a perfect half for Texas as the Longhorns cruised to a 47-7 halftime advantage over UTEP.
But not everything went right.
Hunter Lawrence hit the crossbar on a 54-yard field goal attempt to finish the first half and doinked one of the uprights on an extra point. Take that score away, a Colt McCoy pick-six and a couple of times the Longhorns sputtered in the red zone and everything else looked like a football clinic.
Texas' defense has produced three turnovers, including a pair of interceptions by Earl Thomas. A fearsome defensive performance has limited the Miners to four first downs and 0-for-7 on third down.
The Longhorns have made it look easy during the first 30 minutes.
I guess the only lingering question is when we will see heralded freshman quarterback Garrett Gilbert. I'm betting it will be on the Longhorns' second second-half possession.
The Longhorns' defense will have to play in the second half without defensive end Sergio Kindle, who sustained a right shoulder injury late in the first half.
