OSU's Gilbert on Kiper's Big Board

NFL draft guru Mel Kiper unveiled his first Big Board of the season,Insider a list of the top 25 eligible prospects for next April's draft.

Only one Big 12 player made the list: Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert.

Kiper admits that Gilbert "needs polish" and I'd agree, but you can't discount his physical attributes. Players like Gilbert are a rarity. He's physical and bigger than your average corner at 6-foot, 194 pounds, and is arguably the Big 12's fastest player.

Those kinds of measureables make NFL scouts drool, and it's easy to see why Gilbert is already attracting some attention.

I'd be a little concerned for the Big 12 this year considering just one player from the league is on the list, but I'd also say Jackson Jeffcoat is a huge omission from this list. No way are there 25 better pro prospects right now than Jeffcoat.

Don't be surprised if Oklahoma's Landry Jones and West Virginia's Geno Smith play their way onto the Big Board like Robert Griffin III did last season. He ended up being the No. 2 pick in the draft after being on almost no one's NFL radar (at least as a quarterback) at this time last year.

That changed pretty quick against TCU.
