Collin Klein makes Good Works team

The AFCA Allstate Good Works team is made up of 22 student-athletes who have proven themselves to be great players on the field and good citizens off the field.

The team measures the impact players have in their communities in their spare time.

Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein is the Big 12's only representative on the team.

He's the first Wildcat to make the team since Victor Munn in 2005. Last season, Baylor's Robert Griffin III and Texas' Emmanuel Acho made the team. Kansas quarterback Dayne Crist also made the team, but as a representative of Notre Dame.

Klein made the team because of his penchant for volunteerism. He has regularly visited retirement centers, helped out in elementary schools with the "Read to Achieve" program, and takes part in the "Adopt-A-Family" program during the holiday season.

He also volunteers with the Special Olympics Sports Clinic at Kansas State.

Klein also leads a prayer group at Grace Baptist Church and often speaks at meetings of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

My hat's off to Klein and the other 21 members of the team. For all the scandal of the past year, it's great to see the game's good guys celebrated.
