The father of Texas quarterback John Chiles was involved in a rescue Sunday in Dallas, saving the life of a man before his 18-wheeler carrying more than 7,000 gallons of gasoline exploded.

According to Dallas television station KTVT, traffic was diverted on Highway 175 for several hours as dark smoke billowed over the accident site near downtown Dallas, only a few miles from where his son had played against Oklahoma only a day earlier.

Chiles' father is interviewed in KTVT's news report on the story.
