Two Big 12 players landed in Mel Kiper Jr.’s first mock draft of the year, which was released by ESPN’s NFL draft expert on Wednesday.
Gilbert was one of the nation’s top cornerbacks as a senior after a substandard junior season. He took his game to another level during his final season, displaying his unique speed, athleticism and playmaking ability to rise up draft boards in 2013. His size (6-foot, 200 pounds) and experience (three-year starter at OSU) should allow him to make an immediate impact on Sundays.
Amaro, an early entry junior, was the Big 12’s toughest matchup. At 6-5 and 260 pounds, Amaro can overpower defensive backs while being too athletic and quick for most linebackers. With the NFL increasingly becoming a league of matchups in the passing game, Amaro should be able to carve himself a role within any offense.
