Big 12 recruiting notes: Colorado snares QB Munchie Legaux among 3 recruits

Recruiting is funny sometimes. Win a big game and the commitments start rolling in.

Three Colorado commitments that came in the wake of the Buffaloes' wild 35-34 victory over Texas A&M last week are among some Big 12-related recruiting nuggets provided by Tom Luginbill, the national recruiting director for ESPN's Scouts Inc.

QB Munchie Legaux

New Orleans, La.

Edna Karr H.S.

Scouts Grade: 77

Position Rank: 44

Quarterback Munchie Legaux of Edna Karr (New Orleans, La.) has committed to the Buffs for the Class of 2010.

Legaux also held scholarship offers from Baylor, Michigan, Oregon, Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia, Mississippi, Southern Mississippi, Tulsa, Utah, Kansas State, Tulane, Louisiana Tech and Florida International.

He's completed 109 of 164 pass attempts (66.4 percent) for 1,139 yards and 16 touchdowns this season.

WR Keenan Canty

New Orleans, La.

Edna Karr H.S.

Scouts Grade: 40

Colorado received a pledge from Keenan Canty, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound receiver from Edna Karr (New Orleans, La.), for the Class of 2010.

Canty told the New Orleans Times-Picayune: "It's a different environment and the coaches and players have a vibe that I like."

He hauled in 36 passes for 389 yards and seven touchdowns this fall.

TE Justin Favors

Trotwood, Ohio

Trotwood-Madison H.S.

Scouts Grade: 75

Position Rank: 35

Justin Favors (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison), a three-star prospect, committed to sign with Colorado following an official visit to campus, NittanyNetwork.com's Bill Kurelic reports.

"What I liked best was the game. liked the atmosphere and the campus. And the players welcomed me in," Favors said. "They are graduating six tight ends. They need tight ends to come in. They told me I've got a chance to play next season if I work hard."

DT Jake Cotton

Lincoln, Neb.

Lincoln Southeast H.S.

Scouts Grade: 40

Jake Cotton, the son of Nebraska offensive line coach Barney Cotton and brother of redshirt freshman tight end Ben Cotton, has accepted a scholarship offer from the Huskers.

The 6-foot-7, 265-pound prospect, recruited for defense, was also receiving interest from Iowa State and Ohio.

"They wanted me," Jake Cotton told the Omaha World-Herald. "Throughout the whole thing they said, 'We like you, but not because of your dad.' They told me, 'This is definitely not just because of your dad.' I appreciate them emphasizing that fact."

ATH Jamal Turner

Arlington, Texas

Sam Houston H.S.

Scouts Grade: 45

Junior athlete Jamal Turner (Arlington, Texas/Sam Houston) has received a scholarship offer from Texas A&M, ESPN affiliate Web site TexAgs.com reports.

Turner, who could play quarterback, running back, wide receiver or defensive back in college, also has offers from Nebraska and Oklahoma State.

He's carried 224 times for 1,809 yards (8.1 average) and 19 touchdowns while also completing 154 of 249 attempts (61.8 percent) for 1,816 yards, 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions this season.
