Perseverance will pay off for Jordan Phillips

Jordan Phillips, a probable pick during Day 2 of the NFL draft, has his own unique story, writes Jenni Carlson of The Oklahoman.

The former Oklahoma defensive tackle had an upbringing full of obstacles, living with his grandparents before moving in with a friend in high school, yet finds himself in position to make his dreams come true.

Some view Phillips as an underachiever, but his back story could be reason to be encouraged if you're an NFL GM. It shows a certain amount of perseverance and inner drive that not every NFL prospect possesses. He's a classic boom-or-bust player, but what he overcame during his childhood could help him come off the board early Friday night when Round 2 of the 2015 NFL draft gets underway.
