Big 12 well-represented in cheap-shot contest

Posted by ESPN.com's Tim Griffin

The outstanding Web site thewizofodds.com is conducting its annual contest to determine the cheapest shot in college football during the preceding season.

Three Big 12 incidents received inclusion in the Web site's list of 10 finalists for 2008.

  • Texas Tech defensive end Brandon Williams' late hit on Texas A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson.

  • The organized mayhem between Oklahoma defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger and the Washington offensive line. Granger first levels Washington's Casey Bulyca and then the Huskies group of Bulyca, Juan Garcia and Jordan White-Frisbee have an organized retaliation.

  • A fan flashing a laser pointer at Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson during the Cowboys' victory at Boulder.

Interestingly, three of the nominees came from the same game -- Boise State's 37-32 victory over Oregon on Sept. 20.

The Big 12 has some history in the contest. Texas A&M's Kellen Heard's late hit on Colt McCoy in 2006 won the first cheap shot contest conducted by the site.

All of the 2008 finalists are presented for perusal.

Vote early and often.
