Rutgers snares big DT prospect

Less than 48 hours before signing day begins, Rutgers grabbed a late surprise today when New Jersey high school defensive tackle Isaac Holmes verbally committed to the Scarlet Knights.

Holmes had been recruited by Florida and Oklahoma and was widely believed to be choosing between Pittsburgh and Maryland before giving Greg Schiano the good news.

He's a 6-foot-3, 285-pounder is ranked as the 27th-best defensive tackle in the country by ESPN's Scouts Inc. Adding Holmes to highly-touted prospect Antwan Lowery, Rutgers has two huge anchors on the defensive line for years to come.

The Scarlet Knights were ranked No. 19 nationally in Scouts Inc.'s latest class standings, which was tops in the Big East, and this latest development only strengthens their claim.
