Schiano promotes two to offensive coordinator, gives up defensive role

Rutgers coach Greg Schiano has decided to promote two assistants already on his staff to share the offensive coordinator duties, and he will give up his role as defensive coordinator.

Kirk Ciarrocca and Kyle Flood will handle the offensive coordinator's job made vacant when John McNulty left to coach receivers for the NFL's Arizona Cardinals last week.

Schiano, who had served as his own defensive coordinator since 2005, will relinquish that responsibility to assistants Bob Fraser and Ed Pinkham, who were named co-defensive coordinators today.

Flood will continue in his role as assistant head coach and offensive line coach, while Ciarrocca will now also coach the quarterbacks. He had been the receivers coach last season, but was offensive coordinator at Delaware before coming to Rutgers. Ciarrocca will be the point man now for the Scarlet Knights' most important position battle this spring and fall and will be charged with developing prized recruit Tom Savage. Ciarrocca oversaw the development of Joe Flacco while at Delaware.

Fraser (linebackers) and Pinkham (secondary) will continue to work with their same position groups. Even though Schiano is no longer officially the coordinator, expect him to retain a large role in overseeing the defense.
