Here are the five early enrollees at UConn:
Kyle Bockeloh, C, 6-2, 286 pounds, Houston
Casey Cochran, QB, 6-0, 216 pounds, Monroe, Conn.
Drew Ghio, OL, 6-1, 297 pounds, Bristol, Conn.
Chandler Whitmer, QB, 6-1, 188 pounds, Newnan, Ga.
Joseph Williams, TB, 5-11, 197 pounds, Allentown, Pa.
Notes: We already knew Whitmer and Cochran would be enrolled in time for spring, but it still is welcome news for a team that struggled at quarterback last season. Cochran has been the Gatorade Player of the Year in Connecticut for each of the past two seasons at Masuk High School. He holds the Connecticut high school career records for passing yards and completions. Whitmer spent the 2011 fall semester at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan., going 180-of-316 for 3,022 yards with 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Williams spent the fall 2011 semester at Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy after graduating from Emmaus High School in the spring of 2011. At Emmaus, he rushed for 1,243 yards as a senior. UConn has 1,000-yard back Lyle McCombs returning, and it is anticipated D.J. Shoemate will receive a medical hardship waiver to be able to play in 2012. Bockeloh graduated in the spring of 2011, but delayed his enrollment to college until this semester. Ghio is a walk-on.
