Louisville sets school mark for league titles

The Louisville football team had a big hand in an incredible year for sports at the school.

The Cardinals ended up winning 10 Big East titles during the 2011-12 season, setting a new school record. The old mark was nine, set in 2008-09.

Louisville won five regular-season Big East championships: baseball (co-champions), football (co-champs), women's soccer (North Division), softball and volleyball. The Cardinals won five tournament or postseason titles: men's basketball, softball, women's swimming and diving, men's tennis, and women's track and field.

The Cardinals have won 50 league titles in seven seasons of Big East play, second to Notre Dame (64 championships) and 14 more than third-place UConn (36).

The success this year has translated onto the national level. Louisville is currently tied for 10th in the Capital One Cup men's standings and finished 19th in the final winter Division I Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.

All of this further proves just how valuable Louisville's overall sports program is to the Big East. Or maybe a potential suitor?
