Sneak peek at the week ahead

Here's a quick look at what's in-store for the Big East in Week 2:

Pitt at Cincinnati (ESPN, 8 p.m. ET Thursday): The Panthers will look to show that a Week 1 home loss to FCS Youngstown State was an aberration, as they go for the first win of the Paul Chryst era against a well-rested Cincinnati team that had a Week 1 bye, but has at least shared the conference crown in three of the last four years.

NC State at UConn (ESPN3, noon ET Saturday): The Wolfpack are trying to bounce back from a season-opening Friday night loss to Tennessee in Atlanta against a Huskies squad that looked dominant in its Thursday night shutout of UMass. This is the first of two ACC/Big East matchups Saturday.

Maryland at Temple (ESPNU, noon ET Saturday): This game is the other. The Owls embarrassed the Terrapins in College Park last season, and they will look to do the same this year against an undermanned squad that squeaked by William & Mary in a 7-6 opener that should be forgotten forever.

USC at Syracuse, in East Rutherford, N.J. (ABC/ESPN2, 3:30 ET Saturday): The Trojans' offense rolled through Hawaii in its opener and will try to do the same against an Orange defense that gave up 42 points at home to Northwestern in its opener.

Missouri State at Louisville (ESPN3, 3:30 ET Saturday): From the SEC to the MVC, Louisville's first two opponents present quite the disparity. The Cardinals will have to keep from getting complacent against a Bears squad coming off a 51-9 loss at Kansas State, especially since the deficit was just 9-6 at halftime.

Howard at Rutgers (ESPN3, 3:30 ET Saturday): First-year coach Kyle Flood makes his home debut at Rutgers, where the Scarlet Knights will look to build off their season-opening win over Tulane by putting away their FCS visitors early.

USF at Nevada (CBS Sports Network, 3:35 ET Saturday): This may be the game of the week featuring a Big East school, as a Bulls team many consider to be a conference frontrunner travels to Reno to try to stop the vaunted pistol offense, one that helped the Wolf Pack to an upset win at Cal in Week 1.
