Player of the Week

We put the spotlight on one Cincinnati player entering the weekend, and he did not disappoint.

Walter Stewart continued his strong early-season performance Saturday against Virginia Tech, recording six tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack, giving him three sacks for the season.

The story, however, was the offense, and particularly the quarterback who came of age against the Hokies.

Munchie Legaux completed just 19 of 42 passes, but he delivered when it mattered most, engineering an 85-yard drive that culminated with a 39-yard touchdown pass to Damon Julian with 13 seconds left, stunning Virginia Tech and moving the Bearcats to 3-0.

Legaux finished the day with a career-high 376 yards and threw three touchdown passes. On his team's final drive, Legaux completed 3 of 7 passes for 68 yards and rushed for 17 more. He had 166 yards passing in the fourth quarter alone, and he kept his trust in Julian after a dropped touchdown pass earlier in the quarter that could have proven costly. Legaux was named Big East offensive player of the week for his efforts.

The junior signal caller tossed just one interception against the Hokies' defense, this after giving it away four times in a win over FCS Delaware State in his previous game.

Legaux's accuracy must improve, but his skillset became evident to people outside of the conference on Saturday, and now his team is primed to make yet another run at the Big East crown.
