Louisville coach Charlie Strong has been named the AFCA Region 1 Coach of the Year, the organization announced Monday.
Strong led the Cardinals to their first 10-win season since 2006 and the school’s second BCS bowl game. Louisville will play Florida in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2 in New Orleans.
Five different head coaches were honored by the American Football Coaches Association for their efforts this season:
Region 1: Charlie Strong, Louisville
Region 2: Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M
Region 3: Brian Kelly, Notre Dame
Region 4: Bill Snyder, Kansas State
Region 5: Mike Riley, Oregon State
