USF hires Telly Lockette as RBs coach

South Florida has hired Miami Central High coach Telly Lockette as its running backs coach, head coach Willie Taggart announced Thursday.

Lockette went 60-10 in five seasons at Miami Central, leading the Rockets to three straight 6A state title games and winning the title in 2010 and 2012.

A Div. I-AA All-American linebacker at Idaho State, Lockette replaces Larry Scott, who was initially the only assistant coach retained by Taggart but left the Bulls' staff to become Miami's tight ends coach.

Scott was on the USF staff since 2005.
