Syracuse has lost its best offensive player (Mike Williams) and best defensive player (Arthur Jones) in the past couple of weeks, among many others. So it seems fitting that the Orange have now lost two valuable special teams contributors.
Sophomore kick returner Mike Jones and senior long snapper/tight end Dalton Phillips will miss the rest of the season after suffering injuries in Saturday's loss at Louisville, the school announced.
Jones has a tear in his left hip flexor muscle. He ranked fifth in the Big East in kickoff returns, averaging 24.1 yards per attempt. He also had eight carries for 61 yards and three receptions for 16 yards.
Phillips sustained a concussion and lost consciousness after a hit in the Louisville game and had to be hospitalized until Monday afternoon. He played in all 10 games as a long snapper and the last four as a tight end.
The hits keep on coming for the Orange, who had 58 players available for Saturday's game.
