Insight Bowl boosts profile with ESPN deal

If the chance to spend late December in Tempe, Ariz., wasn't appealing enough, the Insight Bowl just got a lot more attractive for Big Ten teams and their fans.

The Insight Bowl today announced a multiyear agreement with ESPN and four-year deals with both the Big Ten and Big 12 conferences. As previously reported here, the Insight Bowl moves up in the selection order for both the Big Ten and Big 12, as it will get the No. 3 or No. 4 pick from the Big Ten and the No. 3 pick from the Big 12, following BCS selections.

ESPN will televise the 2010 Insight Bowl on Dec. 28 at 10 p.m. ET at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe. The game previously had been broadcast by the NFL Network and featured the No. 6 selections from the Big Ten and Big 12.

The Insight Bowl and Gator Bowl will alternate the No. 3 and No. 4 selections from the Big Ten. Participants in the Insight Bowl will earn a $6.65 million payout, which isn't too shabby at all.

As I often tell my friend and new Fiesta Bowl/Insight Bowl PR guru Andy Bagnato, you don't need to twist my arm to get me to Arizona for these games. I'm sure Big Ten fans will turn out in force this fall.
