The pretrial hearing for Ohio State freshman offensive lineman J.B. Shugarts has been scheduled for Monday, his attorney, Garth Cox, told me this morning.
Shugarts faces a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia after police found a pipe in a car he was traveling in during a Jan. 14 traffic stop. Ohio State freshman offensive lineman Mike Adams had the same charge dismissed Monday and will only be required to pay a traffic fine for running a stop sign.
Shugarts' hearing in Franklin County Municipal Court was continued on Wednesday. Cox said both Shugarts and Adams voluntarily took a drug test and passed, and lab tests showed no traces of drugs on the pipe found in their car.
Ohio State opens spring practice April 2, and both Adams and Shugarts are expected to compete for starting jobs.
