Best wishes to Iowa broadcaster Ed Podolak, who is recovering after being injured in an accident during the weekend.
Podolak is in stable condition after suffering serious injuries when a car struck him early Sunday while he crossed the street outside his hotel in Scottsdale, Ariz. The former Iowa and Kansas City Chiefs standout was in Scottsdale to attend a social function.
Podolak's daughter Laura released a statement Monday night:
“My dad is alert and in good spirits. His injuries are serious, but non-life threatening," the statement reads. "Our family greatly appreciates the calls and well-wishes we have received from friends and fans throughout the country. But we also request that everyone respects our privacy as Dad recovers from his injuries. We also want to thank the emergency personnel, doctors and nurses for their quick response and continued care."
Podolak's broadcast partner, Gary Dolphin, said Monday night that Podolak suffered broken legs and broken ribs in the accident.
Podolak played running back and quarterback at Iowa from 1966-68 and and has served as a football radio analyst for the school for more than 25 years.
