Greetings from Camp Rantoul

RANTOUL, Ill. -- Greetings from Camp Rantoul, the summer training camp for the Illinois football team.

This is my second visit to the former Air Force base Illinois now takes over for several weeks each August, though I got a tour of the facilities from head coach Ron Zook earlier today. Zook took me on his golf cart -- he drives slower than he talks -- and showed me the outdoor weight room, the rehab facilities and the practice fields. The coach said the setup here beats any training camp he experienced in the NFL with the Saints, Steelers and Chiefs.

I also had a chance to chat with quarterback Juice Williams, defensive line coach Keith Gilbert and linebackers Martez Wilson and Ian Thomas, who has been one of the standouts in camp so far. Practice begins at 4:30 p.m. ET, and I'll be talking with Arrelious Benn and several other players later.

Check back for Illinois updates throughout the day.
