COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Tight ends, ye have been freed from the shackles of the Jim Tressel era.
OK, that might be a bit extreme. But under Tressel, tight ends were supposed to block and block some more, with maybe an occasional bone tossed their way. Whether it's the Luke Fickell difference or merely the talent of Jake Stoneburner, that appears to be changing.
Stoneburner just hauled in his third touchdown catch of the day from Joe Bauserman to put the Buckeyes up 28-0 on Akron. Stoneburner had only 21 catches and two touchdowns all of last season. Everyone raved about his play this spring and summer, and now Stoneburner is showing why. And he has the freedom to shine.
It was also Bauserman's third touchdown toss, in addition to his running score. If there was any doubt who the starting quarterback was moving forward for Ohio State, that has been answered definitively this afternoon.
