We knew quarterback Dan Persa would make his season debut today at No. 24 Illinois, but Northwestern left it open-ended on how much the senior will play.
Turns out, Persa is expected to start the game for the Wildcats in his first appearance since Nov. 13, when he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon while throwing the game-winning touchdown pass against Iowa.
It will be interesting to see how Persa looks, especially in situations where he can or must run the football. He's not limited as a passer, but he relies a lot on his legs.
Kain Colter, who started the first three games at quarterback for Northwestern, also will be part of the game plan and could be used in a variety of roles.
