Penn State might be struggling for national respect, but someone is taking notice of Lions sophomore running back Silas Redd.
Redd has been added to the watch list for the Maxwell Award. He's one of only two players added to the list because of their in-season performance -- Clemson WR Sammy Watkins is the other.
Redd ranks third in the Big Ten in rushing average (108.6) and has the most rushing yards in the league through the first eight games (869). He has gained more than 125 rush yards in each of the past four games.
It'll be interesting to see if Redd can keep the streak going against a solid Illinois defensive front seven this Saturday in State College, Pa. The sophomore said Wednesday on a conference call that he suffered a stinger last week at Northwestern but expected to play against the Illini.
