Huskers' Burkhead out for UCLA game

Nebraska's All-Big Ten running back Rex Burkhead won't play today against UCLA after suffering a sprained MCL in his knee in last week's opener against Southern Miss.

Burkhead made the trip to California but didn't suit up for the game. Sophomore Ameer Abdullah is expected to start for the Huskers, who have good depth at running back with Braylon Heard and Imani Cross also in the mix.

Burkhead, a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2011, rushed for 1,357 yards and 15 touchdowns last season. He has played in every game the past two seasons.
