Big Ten in the latest polls

The second round of BCS standings will come out tonight, but there's a good chance the Big Ten will have a team in them after getting shut out of the initial standings.

That's because Michigan is steadily climbing. The Wolverines are No. 20 in the USA Today coaches' poll, up five spots from last week after beating Michigan State 12-10. Michigan is also No. 20 in the Associated Press poll, which does not count in the BCS standings. But pollsters like to imitate each other, so there's a good chance Harris Poll voters will also have the Wolverines high enough to get them in.

In other poll news, Ohio State dropped a couple of spots after an overtime win over Purdue, while Wisconsin jumped back into the coaches' rankings. Here's how things stand.

No. 9: Ohio State

No. 20 Michigan

Penn State, despite its five-game winning streak, couldn't crack the poll. The Nittany Lions is sixth among those receiving votes. Wisconsin was 28th overall and Nebraska No. 30.

No. 20 Michigan

No. 25 Wisconsin

The coaches' poll has been higher on the Badgers all along, even ranking Wisconsin after its loss to Oregon State and near loss to Utah State. So they put the Badgers back in after their three-game winning streak in Big Ten play. Remember that Ohio State and Penn State are not eligible for the coaches' poll because of probation. Nebraska was second among those receiving votes, while Northwestern also received votes.
