Purdue hires tight ends coach

Darrell Hazell's first staff at Purdue is almost complete after the Boilermakers announced the hiring of Gerad Parker as tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator.

Parker spent the previous two seasons at Marshall as receivers coach. The Thundering Herd led the nation in passing offense last season at 365.1 yards per game through the air. Marshall receiver Tommy Shuler led all FBS players with 9.2 receptions per game and set a Boilermakers opponent record with 19 receptions for 200 yards in a September loss in West Lafayette.

“Gerad is just what I was looking for in our tight ends coach,” Hazell said in a statement released by the school. “He’s a young and energetic coach with passing game experience. His background will help in the development of some very special tight ends in our program."

Prior to Marshall, Parker spent three seasons at UT-Martin as the Skyhawks’ passing game coordinator, recruiting coordinator, wide receivers and running backs coach. He played at Kentucky.

Parker is the eighth hire for Hazell's staff. Purdue still must fill its opening for a defensive line coach.
