Penn State picks up punter for 2010

Graham Zug's run as Penn State's emergency punter likely has come to an end. I think he'll get over it.

Penn State addressed a key need Thursday when it added punter Alex Butterworth to its 2010 recruiting class. Butterworth is a three-time all-state selection in Indiana who played for small-school powerhouse Heritage Christian. He averaged 38.8 yards per punt last fall.

Butterworth would have gone to Purdue had Penn State not come calling.

Penn State lost punter Ryan Breen during the winter, and Anthony Fera didn't practice for part of the spring after being cited for underage drinking. Zug, a starting wide receiver for the Lions, said last month he was serving as the team's second-team punter, but Butterworth provides some much-needed insurance there.
