Video: Penn State walk-on tears up after learning of scholarship

Every year, some walk-ons' lives are changed when they receive a scholarship. That's not totally unprecedented -- but filming the player's reaction might be.

That's where the Nittany Lions come in. Penn State linebacker Von Walker was the recipient of that good news Monday -- and he acted like it -- when coach James Franklin announced he earned a full ride. The entire act was caught on camera.

After Franklin's announcement, his teammates immediately jumped from their seats and engulfed a red-faced Walker. One cut scene later, and Walker was on his cell phone talking to his mother.

"I got one, I got one, I got one. I swear to God," he said, wiping his eyes. "I'm serious."

Walker played in 12 games last season and made one start. He finished with 12 tackles and returned two kicks for 61 yards.

He's earned plenty of praise from Franklin throughout the spring, but Franklin summed it all up to open the video.

"I want to publicly acknowledged somebody that I love -- and I love all you guys -- but this guy to me is an example of everything we do around here," Franklin said. "Blue-collar, hard-nosed, works his ass off, always has positive energy at practice, is unbelievable at practice, has improved as much as anybody. ..."
