Marchand, Sabourin called up

The Bruins on Friday recalled forward Brad Marchand and goaltender Dany Sabourin from Providence, and assigned goaltender Matt Dalton to Providence.

Dalton had been called up from the Reading Royals Thursday and served as Tim Thomas’ backup against Toronto.

Marchand and Sabourin are expected to travel with the team on its upcoming seven-game road trip.

Marchand, 21, had been called up earlier this season, debuting on the Boston squad on Oct. 21 against Nashville and recording his first career NHL point in that game. He played in 12 games for Boston and had one assist. In 34 games for Providence this season, he has 13 goals, 19 assists and a team-best +14 plus/minus rating.

Sabourin, who has a 23-20-0 record and three shutouts with Providence, is a 10-year pro who played in 57 NHL games with the Flames, Canucks and Penguins. Originally drafted by the Flames 1998, he was signed by the Bruins as a free agent in July 2009. This is his first recall to Boston.

Dalton, 23, has appeared in 37 games this season for the Royals with a 17-18-2 record. He’s played in four Providence Bruins games this year, and has 0-4-0 record.
