VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals between the Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks was the most-watched opening game in the past 12 years, especially in the Boston and Providence markets, and that news did not go unnoticed by the players.
Bruins assistant captain Patrice Bergeron was pumped when told about the ratings.
“It’s great news,” he said. “To be honest, when we were back at home we could feel it. The whole city was behind and is still behind us all along in the playoffs and during the season. It means a lot to us and obviously we want to do it for them. We can feel all the support and it’s great.”
Because the Bruins are in the Cup finals, and their popularity is skyrocketing, both the Boston Red Sox and Pawtucket Red Sox have moved up their respective game times on Saturday so fans can watch Game 2 on Saturday night.
