Kampfer out 2-4 weeks

BOSTON -- The Bruins announced Friday that defenseman Steven Kampfer, who was battling Matt Bartkowski for the seventh spot on the Boston blue line, suffered a sprained MCL in the third period of Thursday night's 2-1 loss to the Senators and will be out 2-4 weeks.

That means that Bartkowski, who was the last cut from camp last season, will start the season on the Bruins roster as the seventh defenseman.

Coach Claude Julien had told the media that both defenseman were still in the running prior to the MRI results on Kampfer's knee, so if he recovers properly and performs well in Providence (AHL) when he returns, the Michigan-born rearguard will be a likely candidate to be called up if needed.
