BOSTON -- Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk left midway through the second period of a 3-2 shootout win over Anaheim after suffering an undisclosed injury after a collision along the boards. He did not return to the game.
Following the game, Bruins head coach Claude Julien did not have an update on Boychuck's status. Details on the defenseman's injury have not yet been disclosed.
"He got hurt when he crashed into the boards, and I think everybody saw that. Right now, he's unable to come back," Julien said. "From what my trainers have told me, we'll know more tomorrow morning. You can't assess these injuries as far as, you know, it's a one-week thing, it's one day, he'll be better tomorrow. You always have to let those things settle down a little bit before we get more. If we do, we'll give you more news on that tomorrow."
In Boychuk's absence, Adam McQuaid filled in on the defensive pairing with Zdeno Chara, logging 20:23 of ice time in 28 shifts with three hits and a blocked shot. Boychuk left the game having skated 9:27 of ice time in 13 shifts, registering two hits, a takeaway and a blocked shot.
