Semih Erden goes to the basket against Puerto Rico.Celtics rookie center Semih Erden scored seven of his 10 points in the final quarter to help host Turkey top Puerto Rico, 79-77, Wednesday at the 2010 FIBA World Championships.
With Turkey clinging to a one-point lead entering the fourth quarter, Erden went to work, hitting a pair of bunnies and a trio of free throws as his national team opened a double-digit lead with three minutes to go and hung on from there.
Erden also chipped in six rebounds (three at both ends of the court) and a block. He didn't commit a turnover in 19 minutes off the bench.
Turkey improved to 4-0, remaining Group C's only undefeated squad, and guaranteed itself the top spot in the pool. Turkey wraps group play Thursday against China (1-3). The Round of 8 quarterfinals begins Saturday.
