The New Orleans Hornets have claimed center and former LSU standout Chris Johnson off of waivers. The 6-foot-11 Johnson was waived by the Portland Trail Blazers on March 15. Johnson, who joined the Hornets on Tuesday, appeared in 20 games for Portland this season, averaging 1.6 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.4 blocks in 4.7 minutes per game. The 26-year-old began his NBA career last season with Boston. He played in four games with the Celtics and 10 games with the Trail Blazers in 2010-11. Johnson spent most of last season with Dakota of the NBA Development League, averaging 16.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in 35 games. Following his senior season at LSU in 2008-09, Johnson played professionally in Turkey and Poland before landing his first NBA job.
