BOSTON -- The Boston College Eagles hit the trifecta on Monday night, edging crosstown rival Boston University, 3-2, on Bill Arnold's sudden-death strike with 6.4 seconds left in overtime to win their third straight Beanpot crown.
Twice the Eagles went up by a goal, and twice BU's Garrett Noonan had the answer. Noonan's last strike, at 7:12 of the third, sent the game into an extra session.
It was the Eagles' 17th Beanpot crown, and coach Jerry York's seventh, winning as a player in 1965, and six times as the BC bench boss.
The win marked was the first time the Eagles won three straight Beanpot crowns since York's sophomore season at the Heights, in 1965.
