St. John's Prep two-sport star Pat Connaughton is sticking to his Irish roots. The Arlington native called up Notre Dame head basketball coach Mike Brey about a half-hour ago and giving his verbal commitment, his AAU coach Mike Crotty Jr. just confirmed.
Connaughton will play both basketball and baseball in South Bend. He was being recruited to play both sports by a number of schools, including Tennessee, Wake Forest, UCLA, Florida, Marquette, Northwestern, Penn State and Florida State. He will be on a full basketball scholarship, but will suit up for the baseball program and head coach Mik Aoki once hoops season is over, following in the tradition of recent Irish two-sport stars like Jeff Samardzija and Golden Tate.
More details later today.
