The MIAA girls' soccer Top 20 poll has been updated and there's a new No. 1.
With that, here's a few observations on movement from resident soccer guru James Walsh:
We have a new No. 1 team this week after Central Catholic has hit a small (very small) bump in the road, but with the amount of quality at the top of our poll the Raiders drop to seventh. Please don’t read too much into that, we know the defending champs are still one of the top teams in the state.
Also knocking very loudly on the Top 20 door are the Duxbury Dragons and the Whitman-Hanson Panthers who are two of the hottest teams in the state and both fighting for the Patriot (Keenan) title. They square off in one of our games of the week picks on Monday the 24th at Whitman-Hanson, at 5:00pm.
Falling out of the Top 20 is Shrewsbury, who have only lost twice all year, but other teams have just been racking up more wins than the Colonials, do look for them to bounce back up into the rankings.
GAMES OF THE WEEK
Duxbury at Whitman-Hanson: Monday. Oct. 24, 5 p.m.
This game ended in a 1-1 draw back in early October.
No. 14 Oliver Ames at No. 5 Canton: Friday, Oct. 21, 3:30 p.m.
The two top teams in the Hockmock (Davenport) will kick-off for the second time this season on Friday with the Bulldogs holding a slight edge in the standings thanks in part to the 3-0 victory over the Tigers in lat September.
