Report: Sandwich player accused of assault

Troubling news out of Sandwich this afternoon, where the Cape Cod Times is reporting that a Sandwich High football player was arraigned in Barnstable County Court yesterday on two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot and a broom stick handle).

Ty McGrath, 18, of Plymouth, was released on his personal recognizance, and a pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for November 15. School Superintendent Richard Canfield told the Times that the school is conducting its own investigation into the allegations, but the preliminary results show no indication this was a hazing incident. He also told the paper that if the school finds that the allegations are correct, McGrath would be removed from the football team.
