FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- For the last couple of seasons, No. 20 Framingham has been a bit of a bugaboo to No. 3 BC High hockey. The Flyers have managed to take a point from each of the teams’ last two meetings, leading into Wednesday’s tilt at Loring Arena.
There was no such luck for the upstart Flyers this time though as BC High used two early first-period goals to build momentum and run away with a 6-0 win.
“We had this game marked on our calendar as a bit of a litmus test, if you will,” Eagles head coach John Flaherty said.
BC High (2-0-0) got contributions from each of its lines, with nine players cracking the scoring sheet. Sophomore forwards Adam Foley (1 G, 1 A) and Tom Besinger (2 A) were the Eagles with multi-point games.
“I think we’re real strong right now,” said Besinger, who’s now an assistant captain of the Eagles. “We have a great chemistry on the team and everyone’s contributing.”
The Eagles quickly pounced on the Flyers (2-1-1) with Steve DeForge netting a goal on the first shift of the game off of captain Brian Furey’s blue-line blast. BC High then took a 2-0 lead by the three-minute mark on Connor Noonan’s tally assisted by Besinger and Tim Larocque.
BC High added two more goal in each the second and third periods.
THE ROAD AHEAD
The Eagles, who have played only two games in the season’s first two weeks, will be tested soon enough with a stretch of three games in four days. After Wednesday’s victory, BC High will close out 2011 with back-to-back games against St. John’s of Shrewsbury and Winchester – two Top 25 opponents.
The Flyers will have a challenge of their own to face on Saturday. Aside from bouncing back from the loss to BC High, Framingham will face a motivated Catholic Memorial squad on Saturday, with the Knights coming off of a last-minute loss to Needham on Wednesday.
“I really expected us to compete a little bit better today,” Flyers head coach Paul Spear said. “We’ve done that in all of our games up until today. I’m a little disappointed in that.
“We have to make sure we [compete] on Saturday.”
