We updated our statewide MIAA Top 25 girls basketball poll last night, and once again there is no surprise who remains the leader in the clubhouse.
Andover, on the heels of a thrashing of archrival Central Catholic, hold on to the top spot, which they have held since the final poll of the 2010-11 season. Can anyone slow them down? The Golden Warriors have beaten every opponent by double-digits, with an average margin of victory of over 26 points.
With losses by Central and Acton-Boxborough, we've done a bit of shuffling with the top five, with Reading moving into the No. 2 spot -- its highest position ever in the poll. Arlington Catholic (3), West Springfield (4) and Central Catholic (5) round out the top five.
Making the biggest jump was Lynn English (11), which leapfrogged 10 spots after knocking off St. Mary's of Lynn over the holiday break. Holy Name also makes its debut at No. 12, while Billerica makes a hard-earned debut at No. 23.
